Ann A. Lewis, FNP-C
Owner and FNP Provider
Sampson Medical Services, P.A, Surf City, NC

How is your practice organized?

Sampson Medical Center is a solo practice. The practice is legally a professional association and is an S-Corporation.

Ann Lewis chose this form of legal entity because it allows for a partner to work with her without Ann being personally libel for the partners’ actions/practice. The practice and the partner could be sued (in the situation of a malpractice claim) but Ann could not be sued.

The practice has: 1 LPN, 1 certified medical assistant, 1 medical assistant, an administrator, and 3 billing specialists. The supervising physician receives a set fee each month as well.

The owner, Ann Lewis, is the sole provider of care in the practice. She estimates that she spends 5-10 hours per week in administrative activities for the practice out of a total of 50-60 hours worked per week. The majority of her time is spent seeing the 25-40 patients that visit daily. For a short period of time, a second NP worked with Ann at the new practice. During this interval, the patient’s visits increased only slightly to 40-45 per day.
