month old baby “Justin” is
in the process of being discharged from a major medical center in
Boston. His
home is in Willowdale, a small rural community several hours away
from Boston. The baby has severe Cystic Fibrosis. There is an issue
as to whether or not the baby should be sent home, as care in his
home community may be insufficient. His insurance will not cover
any additional time in the hospital, and his family has limited
financial resources.
All
of this sounds very complicated and expensive. We can’t afford
to move; besides, we love Willowdale. We want Justin to grow up
with fresh air and open spaces – where people know and care
about one another. Maybe we should see what resources are available
through our local hospital.
